Chinese Nets
The best known location of the traditional Chinese Nets is the coastline of Fort Cochin at the northern end of the Kerala Backwaters. Merchants in the entourage of Kublai Khan brought the complex construction during the 13th century to India and they are used until today. Four strong men are necessary to operate the amazing construction consisting of a rectengular net, which is moved by a complicated system of leverages and counterweights. Today, the nets are primary a touristic attraction and cultural herage. Most of the fish are sold at the local fish market.
